Dairy Group was a proud sponsor of the Nanaga Mountain Bike (MTB) Race which happened in the Eastern Cape on Sunday, 27 March this year. Our sponsorship is in honour of late Werner Büchner, Dairy Group Non-Executive Board Director and founder of the Nanaga MBT.
“A gentleman, husband, father, brother, friend, but truly so much more. You really can’t explain in words the man that he was. The MTB without Werner would never have happened. Endless time was spent in planning the routes, the concept, behind the scenes conversations with companies and riders across the country to a vision of what the MTB is today, five years later. When opportunities presented themselves, Werner was there. Mind you, most of the opportunities he created.” – Iain Withers, Sunshine Coast Charity Trust Chairman
“Werner Büchner was a big part of our community and he would be so proud to see the event happening again. We all just loved him so much – a great tribute to him today.” Melanie Withers, Sunshine Coast Charity Trust
What is the Nanaga MTB?
The Nanaga MTB is a trail between the Nanaga and Zuney areas and its primary goal, other than being a premier mountain bike event, is to raise funds in support of the Sunshine Coast Charity Trust. The event launched in 2013 with an initial 45 riders in attendance. Since then, it has grown to accommodate 1000 riders in 2018. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event was halted until this year.
Sunshine Coast Charity Trust
The Sunshine Coast Charity Trust was founded in November 2004 by a group of farmers’ wives with the goal to make a difference in their surrounding communities, including Alexandria, Paterson and Colchester. Since its inception, the Trust has established a day care centre in Alexandria that provides over 50 children with meals, homework and counselling. In Paterson, the Trust supports an HIV/AIDS centre that also runs a daycare for over 180 children and in Colchester, a swop-shop contributes to the upliftment of over 1000 school children.
