Spring is here and so is Alp Blossom cheese!

October 20, 2021

If ever you were in the mood for a delightful picnic next to a tranquil lake, hugged close by the mountains as you sip on a cold Riesling and cut into your alp blossom cheese, spring is the time for it.

While this cheese is relatively unknown in Southern Africa, we suspect it will begin to gain popularity around the world in the coming months.

What makes it so magical is that it is not only a semi-hard cow’s milk cheese, it is covered in the sweet spring flowers that cows graze on in the summer months. The cheese is made from the humble milk of Brown Swiss cows in the rolling hills of Western Austria.

The purple, pink, yellow, orange, and green flowers and herbs are used to delicately coat the alp blossom cheese. First, it is carefully matured for six months before being covered in flowers and herbs like lavender, cornflowers, rose petals, and marjoram.

This nutty cheese is truly an ode to nature and all of its bountiful gifts.
